Italy’s Elia Viviani recovered from a mid race crash in the final points race to win the men’s Omnium title.

Mark Cavendish added a silver to Great Britain’s impressive medal haul in Rio while bronze went to defending Olympic champion from Denmark, Lasse Norman Hansen.

Viviani finished the six-discipline event with 207 points, Cavendish had 194, while Hansen ended with 192 points.

Chakvetadze on top

2015 European Games winner Davit Chakvetadze celebrated gold in the men’s -85kg Grego-Roman wrestling competition.

Making his Olympic debut, Russia’s Chakvetadze outclassed Ukranian Zhan Beleniuk 9-2 in the final.

Germany’s Denis Kudla won bronze.
