Andrea Iannone won the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg for his very first Moto GP victory.

With the victory the 27-year old Italian handed Ducati it’s first win in almost six years – the last Ducati rider to celebrate a MotoGP triumph was Casey Stoner at Phillip Island in October 2010.

In the final ten laps of the race Iannone alongwith compatriot and teammate Andrea Dovizioso started to pull away from the likes of Valentino Rossi, defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez.

Iannone and Dovizioso continued to battle for the lead but it was Iannone who held his nerve to take the win 0.938 seconds clear of his compatriot.

Lorenzo was third and Rossi fourth.

Marquez continues to lead the championship standings after 10 of 18 races this season.

He has 181 points, 43 ahead of Lorenzo with Rossi a further 14 points adrift.
