Russian Pole Vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva’s last gasp attempt to compete at the Rio Olympcis has failed after a Swiss Court rejected her appeal against her ban.

The two-time Olympic champion and compatriot Sergei Shubenkov – a track-and-field athlete – were hoping to overturn a Court of Arbitration for Sport decision that barred them and other Russian athletes from the Olympics.

Russia’s entire track and field team were excluded from competing at the Summer Games in Brazil after the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) suspended the nation’s membership amid state-sponsored doping allegations.

CAS upheld that decision leaving Isinbayeva and Shubenkov looking to the Swiss Federal Court in Lausanne to hand them an Olympic lifeline.
