Top seeds Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic both advanced to the semi-finals of the French Open.

Williams survived a scare as she came from one set down to beat Kazakh Yulia Putintseva in three sets on the red dust of Paris.

In the semi-finals the World number one, who is hunting a 22nd career Grand Slam title, will meet unseeded Dutch player Kiki Bertens.

Djokovic meanwhile brushed aside seventh seed Tomas Berdych with little fuss.

The Serb won through 6-3 7-5 6-3 as he bids to win his first title at Roland Garros.

Djokovic will now face Austrian 13th seed Dominic Thiem while Andy Murray and defending champion Stan Wawrinka meet in the other semi final.
