NASA has launched a super-pressure weather balloon from New Zealand’s Wanaka airport, filled with 3,600kg of helium.

The 2,366kg balloon was set on course on Tuesday, May 17, and will orbit the Earth for “as long as possible”, with a target of 100 days: NASA’s current record for keeping a balloon in orbit is 54 days.
