Atletico Madrid have reached the final of the Champions League for a second time in three season despite losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich in their semi-final second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Xabi Alonso hit the opener on 31 minutes when his free kick deflected in off Jose Maria Gimenez.

Thomas Muller should have doubled Bayern’s lead from the spot three minutes later but had his penalty saved by Jan Oblak.

An on-form and slightly off-side Antoine Griezmann levelled on 54 minutes before Robert Lewandowski hit home Bayern’s second on the night.

The German’s needed a third goal to qualify but it didn’t materialize.

Fernando Torres missed a late penalty but it didn’t matter as Diego Simeone’s men advanced on the away goals rule courtesy of their 1-0 first leg victory.
