Spain’s Ion Izagirre won the Tour de Romandie prologue on Tuesday to claim the first leader’s jersey of the 70th edition of the race.

The 27-year-old Movistar rider completed the 3.95 kilometre time-trial in La Chaux de Fonds in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, six seconds clear of Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin.

Seven seconds back in third and fourth were Team Sky duo Michal Kwiatkowski and Geraint Thomas.

Wednesday’s stage two is a flat 166 kilometre ride to Moudon.
