Reinhard Grindel was on Friday elected unopposed as the 12th President of the German Football Federation – DFB.
The 54-year-old is a former TV journalists-turned-politician and was a member of parliament for German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU party.
He became treasurer of the DFB in 2013, but remains a largely unknown figure to German football fans.
Grindel succeeds Wolfgang Niersbach, who resigned in November amid allegations of financial impropriety in Germany’s successful 2006 World Cup bid.
