Argentina’s Juan Monaco outclassed defending champion Jack Sock in three sets to claim his second US Clay Court Championship in Houston on Sunday.
The 32-year-old, who also won the tournament back in 2012, had to dig deep and conceded the first set before finding his range in the second and the third, eventually winning through 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
This was Monaco’s ninth career title and his return to form will be rewarded with a climb in the world rankings from 148th to 90th when they are published this week.
I'm very happy of having a cup in my hands once again and thankful of my quick return.... https://t.co/ggPPDdMWp0pic.twitter.com/sVuEwUiFMG
