Barcelona won the El Clasico bragging rights this week when they beat rivals and defending champions Real Madrid in the top 16 phase of the Euroleague.

Barcelona raced ahead early and held on to the capital club 72-65 at home in the Palau Blaugrana arena.

Both teams now have 6-5 records in Group F, but Barcelona has the upper hand after beating the reigning champs twice during this stage of the competition.

Stratos Perperoglou led the Catalans with 20 points.

Elsewhere on the night Fenerbahce Istanbul downed fellow Turks Darussafaka 77-69 to assure themselves of home-court advantage in the playoffs.

After becoming first team to qualify last week Fenerbache improved it’s Top 16 record to an impressive 10 wins and one defeat.

When Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar lost later in the day Fenerbahce clinched first place in Group E while Darussafaka are all but eliminated from the playoff race.
