Andreas Mikkelsen topped the timesheets in the shakedown for Rally Mexico on Thursday – the third leg and first gravel test this season.

The Norwegian VW driver took top spot after his seventh run at the short 5.5km opener in Leon.

Belgium’s Thierry Neuville, who has had a poor start to the season, steered his brand new Hyundai i20 to the second quickest time.

Three-time defending Sebastien Ogier from France completed three runs of the course to post the third-best time.

In Mexico, VW’s Ogier is looking to maintain his perfect start to the season having won the first two events in Monaco and Sweden.

VW teammate Jari Matti Latvala who retired from Monaco and placed 26th in Sweden, posted the fourth fastest time as he looks to get his campaign back on track.
