Montserrat Caballe handed six-month suspended jail sentence

The Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballe has been handed a six-month suspended jail sentence and fined more than 250,000 euros for tax evasion. The 82-year-old withheld 500,000 euros in taxes in 2010.

The soprano won millions of new fans beyond the world of classical music when she sang Barcelona with Freddie Mercury at the 1992 Olympic Games.
