Former Rangers midfielder Arnold Peralta has been shot dead in a shopping mall parking lot in his home town of La Ceiba on the Caribbean coast of Honduras.
The motive behind the killing is not known although robbery has been ruled out as Security ministry spokesman Leonel Sauceda said the assailants did not take any of Peralta’s personal belongings.
Witness claim the attackers said nothing to Peralta as he returned to his vehicle while la Ceiba public ministry spokesperson Selvin Fernandez added that the 26-year-old died after receiving 18 gunshot wounds.
Peralta, who left Rangers in January, had been capped 24 times for Honduras and played at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as well as the 2012 London Olympics.
He was due to play for his country in an international friendly against Cuba next week.
