Real Madrid could be facing expulsion from the Copa Del Rey after the club fielded an ineligible player during their fourth-round win over Cadiz.

24-year old Denis Cheryshev handed Real the lead on the night.

But the Russian should have been serving a one match ban after receiving three bookings in the domestic cup competition last season while on loan at Villarreal.

The administrative gaffe means the Spanish federation could kick Real out of the competition as they did with Osasuna earlier this season for fielding a suspended player.

This could be the second time for coach Rafael Benitez who was manager of Valencia when they were disqualified from the King’s Cup for playing too many non-European Union players in a tie against Novelda in 2001.
