Germany’s parliament has voted to criminalise organisations that take payment for assisting patients to terminate their lives.

It follows the parliament’s rejection of draft laws that, if passed, would have made assisted suicide fully legal in Germany.

Critics said the new law does not make clear whether euthanasia is now a criminal offence in all cases.
