In China a third of all men currently under the age of 20 will die prematurely if they do not give up smoking. The warning comes on the back of new research. Scientists carried out two nationwide studies 15 years apart covering hundreds of thousands of people.

The research says two-thirds of men in China now start to smoke before they are 20.

Data shows more than half of Chinese men smoke while only 2.4 percent of women do.
