Turnbull came to power after ousting former prime minister Tony Abbott in a leadership challenge.

The new prime minister had questioned the credentials of the party leader in February.

Abbott then requested six-
months to turn the fortunes of the Liberal Party around.

The time elapsed and Turnbull struck.

Thank you for the privilege of being Prime Minister. My love for this country is as strong as ever. pic.twitter.com/CP0ioCzE1Z

The leader says the government will serve a full term and expects the next general election to take place in mid-2016.
