A number of Turkish soldiers have been killed in a bomb attack on an convoy of armoured vehicles in the southeast of the country.

Kurdish rebel group, the PKK, has claimed responsibility for the ambush and say as many as 15 soldiers died in the blast.

The number of fatalities have yet to be confirmed yet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared on television and said an attack had taken place in Hakkari province close to Turkey’s borders with Iran and Iraq.

The renewed fighting between the PKK and the security forces has killed about 200 people since July.
