24-year-old reporter Alison Parker and 27-year-old camera operator Adam Ward were attacked during a morning interview at a shopping centre in Bedford County in the state of Virginia.

The suspect was identified in media reports as Vester Lee Flanagan. He is said to be a disgruntled former employee of the TV station which also employed the journalists, WDBJ7.

A police manhunt swung into operation. The alleged perpetrator has reportedly been found with gunshot wounds.

The company says they have no idea about a possible motive.
