Valencia put one foot into the Champions League proper after beating Monaco 3-1 in the first leg of their play off in Spain.

Monaco’s Mario Pasalic cancelled out Rodrigo’s opener for the home side.

But Daniel Parejo and Sofiane Feghouli sealed the win to put Valencia in the driving seat ahead of the second leg next week.

Elsewhere Leigh Griffiths scored twice helping Celtic to a 3-2 victory against the Swedes of Malmo.

Shakhtar Donetsk beat Rapid Vienna 1-0 away in Austria.

Albanian top flight champions Skënderbeu lost 2-1 at home to Dinamo Zagreb.

It’s still all to play for when the pair meet again next week as Skenderbeu bid to become the first club from their country to qualify for the group stages.

Basel and Maccabi Tel Aviv, meanwhile, drew 2-2 in Switzerland.
