Barcelona won the battle of the European champions following a 5-4 extra time victory over Sevilla in the UEFA SuperCup in Tbilisi Georgia – a match that pits last season’s Champions League winners against the holders of the Europa League.
Ever Banega scored first for Sevilla before Barca turned on the style to go 4-1 after 52 minutes – Lionel Messi kicking things off with a brace.
Rafinha and Luis Suarez scored the other two for the Catalans.
But Jose Antonio Reyes, Kevin Gameiro and Yevheniy Konoplyanka all hit the mark to help Sevilla mount a remarkable comeback and send the game to extra time.
It wasn’t to be a fairytale finish for Sevilla, though, as in the 115th minute Manchester United target Pedro fired in from close range to hand Barca a trophy-winning start to the season.
