Ukraine’s Justice Ministry has banned three Communist groups from running in the upcoming local elections and filed a lawsuit banning them from operating. The Communist Party was an important force in the country but its popularity has plummeted in recent years over its support for ex-President Viktor Yanukovich. It comes after laws were passed in April banning the use of Soviet-era symbols and denouncing Communist idealogy.
