Stsiapan Papou handed Belarus their ninth gold medal at the European Games in Baku with a convincing win over local favourite Heydar Aliyev Arena in the men’s under 74 kilo class in sambo on Monday.

The 31-year-old looked in great shape and triumphed 4-0 before sportingly carrying his injured opponent off the mat.

Elsewhere, Diana Bacosi and Valerio Luchini fired Italy to gold in the mixed team skeet on the final day of Shooting.

The pair bagged a total of 30 targets, enough to defeat Georgios Achilleos and Andri Eleftheriou of Cyprus by one hit.

Spain’s Miguel Alvarino Garcia kept his composure to take gold in the men’s individual archery event.

The 21-year-old outclassed Sjef van den Berg of the Netherlands in the showpiece match while Belarus’ Anton Prilepov completed the podium.
