French Open: Sharapova out, Djokovic and Nadal to clash in quarters

Defending champion maria Sharapova was knocked out of the French Open Fourth round on Monday following a surprise 7-6, 6-4, defeat by Czech 13th seed Lucie Safarova.
While second seed Sharapova walks to the exit door after suffering her earliest defeat at Roland Garros since 2010 her conqueror moves on to face Spaniard Garbine Muguruza in the last eight.
Over on the men’s draw Top seed Novak Djokovic beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-1 6-2 6-3 to progress to thrilling quarter-final showdown with nine-time champion Rafael Nadal.
Nadal booked his spot with a straight sets win over American Jack Sock.
2009 Champion Roger Federer also made it through to the last eight after a four set triumph over Gael Monfils.
The Swiss will now play compatriot and Davis Cup team-mate Stan Wawrinka.
Andy Murray held off a solid challenge by home hope Jeremy Chardy to reach his fifth French Open quarter-final.
The Scot, seeded third, needed two hours and 51 minutes to win through 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-2.
For a place in the semis he will face seventh seed David Ferrer, who beat ninth seed Marin Cilic 6-2 6-2 6-4.
