India is suffering under a stifling heatwave, which has left more than 1,000 people dead in the past week.

The states of Andhra Pradesh on the southeast coast and “Telangana”: http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/telangana/are the worst hit with temperatures a constant 45C.

Hospitals are on alert and India’s poor the most vulnerable to the sweltering heat.

Hydration is a problem with water scarce and shade at a premium.

“There has been no electricity for hours and there is no help from the officials or anyone, patients share the same bed no one cares,” said one young man undergoing treatment.

Forecasters predict relief is on the way as clouds begin to gather ahead of the monsoon season, however there are fears that some areas may be in a state of drought before the rains arrive.
