Peace: how to build it and how to maintain it. That was the focus of a special audience with Pope Francis.

Some 7,000 children of several nationalities gathered to listen to the Pontiff’‘s address at Paul VI Hall in Vatican City. A number of them introduced themselves to the Pope in Italian.

During the course of the gathering, Francis fielded a number of questions from the children.

“Peace must be built every day,” he told one child. “Peace is not an industrial product, it is a handmade product! Many powerful people don’t want peace, because they feed off war. It is the industry of death!”

The audience was sponsored by Peace Factory , a non-governmental organisation promoting integration and multi-ethnic and cross-cultural understanding through education.
