Ankara has slammed the bombing of a Turkish cargo ship off the coast of Libya as a “contemptible” attack.

One crew member was killed and another injured when forces loyal to the internationally recognised government say they shelled the ship after it was warned not to approach the coastline.

It says it is attempting to stop supplies getting through to Islamist militants.

Turkey says the vessel was in international waters and was leaving the area when it was attacked.
