Two-time Olympic champion Tina Maze has announced she will take a year’s break from skiing.

The 32-year-old, who secured gold medals in the downhill and giant slalom in Sochi, said she would devote the coming months to completing her university studies before deciding if she will return to the competition.

A four-time world champion, Maze has established herself as one of the world’s top skiers and as Slovenia’s most successful female athlete of all time.

Her best season came in 2013, when she scored a world record points total of 2,414 to clinch the crystal globe.
