Gases and ash have been spewing some 2,500 metres into the air and the the resultant mudslides cascading down the volcano’s slopes have blocked off access to the town of Ubinas.
The authorities are warning for locals to be on alert.
After being dormant for several years, the Ubinas volcano has become increasingly active since September 2013.
The Ubinas volcano is in Peru’s Moquegua department, 1250km south of Lima.
