A virtual protest has been held outside Spain’s parliament, showing projected ‘people’ marching and chanting, to denounce a contested new security law that critics say stifles freedom of expression.

The hologram-style demonstration was staged on Friday night in Madrid as a symbolic show of defiance in the face of legislation that could impose fines of up to 600,000 euros on unauthorised demonstrators gathering outside certain sensitive sites.
