Team Sky are to unveil a bike specifically designed to deal with cobblestones which professional cyclists encounter on some road races.

It’s been nicknamed the,“cobble bike” and designed by Pinarello with flexible carbon chain-stays and a lightweight suspension system to deal with the juddering effects of the cobblestones. The team will race on the bike in the Tour of Flanders on Sunday.

“Quite often you have quite a lot of small innovations that all club together to create a big performance difference. And it is quite rare that you can have just one small innovation and a design that can actually make quite a large difference in performance, and you know I think we are in one of those rare situations where we have got that on our hands and that’s fantastic,“explained Sir Dave Brailsford, Team Sky Team Principal.

Sir Bradley Wiggins will make his final appearance for Team Sky on the bike in the Paris-Roubaix before leaving to prepare for the 2016 Olympics.

The race includes the same stretches of cobblestones which will be used for stage four of this year’s Tour de France.
