Austria’s Anna Fenninger kept her composure to clinch a World Cup giant slalom race in Are, Sweden on Friday.
The reigning champion in the discipline proved too strong for her opponents as she clocked an impressive time of 2 minutes and 24.20 seconds to secure the win ahead of Italy’s Nadia Fanchini.
Fanchini, a clear underdog going into the event, produced a solid run en route to her first podium finish since 2010 while Austria’s Eva-Maria Brem had to settle for third place.
This result sees Fenninger move atop the overall standings, 45 points ahead of Slovenia’s Tina Maze, who finished 20th after a disappointing second run.
