At an energy summit in Madrid, France, Spain and Portugal have agreed to seek ways of diversifying their energy dependence away from unstable countries and in particular Russia.

Moscow’s takeover of Crimea last year and continued support for rebels in a separatist war in Ukraine has changed Europe’s mindset about relying so heavily on Russian energy.

Renewable energy seems to be the answer and the leaders are looking to transit to the rest of Europe the spare energy produced from wind and solar power produced particularly by the countries south of the Pyrenees.
