Ukraine could run out of supplies of gas within two days. That’s according to Russia’s Gazprom. The company which supplies gas to Ukraine said in a statement Kyiv had failed to make a payments for supplies and so it would be forced to stop providing the country with gas.

“It creates serious risks for gas transit to Europe,” a company statement said and claims Ukraine had just 219 million cubic metres left which would be used up in two days.

The threat to stop supplies comes 24 hours after state energy firm Naftogaz accused Gazprom of failing to supply gas which Kyiv had paid for in advance. Moscow has already said it was sending some gas destined for Ukraine directly to regions under the control of rebels.
