Australia’s Rohan Dennis produced a stunning performance to set a new hour world record of 52.491km in Grenchen, Switzerland on Sunday.
The 24-year-old, who recently won the Tour Down Under, broke the previous mark set by Austrian Matthias Brandle last October by more than 600 metres.
Dennis, an Olympic silver medallist in London with the Australian pursuit team, is the second man this year to attempt the record after compatriot Jack Bobridge’s recent effort fell narrowly short.
2012 Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins has also expressed an interest in a record attempt this year but a date has yet to be set.
