The former coach of heavyweight champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko has died.

Fritz Sdunek passed away at the age of 67 following a heart attack on Monday.

In a statement the Klitschko brothers said that when they came to Germany Sdunek was ‘‘the most important person’‘ to them and that his death was ‘‘a huge personal loss’‘.

Sdunek was a former East German amateur boxer and coach and had been working for the Universum boxing group in Hamburg since the mid-1990s.

He coached the Klitschkos to world titles before semi-retiring in 2009.

He helped Wladimir to the 2000 heavyweight title and older brother Vitali to the world title in 2012 before the heavy hitter turned his attentions to Ukrainian politics.
