British and German troops have marked the anniversary of the World War One Christmas truce when 1914 soldiers are said to have stopped fighting and played football instead.

Two teams played a friendly complete with a few period uniforms.

It’s not sure if it really was a full blown match in no man’s land but Wednesday’s fixture, which the British team won 1-0 was held as a mark of respect.

Proceeds will be donated to the Royal British Legion and an equivalent German military charity.
