Jenson Button’s McLaren future is safe for at least another year after the 2009 world champion was named in the teams driver line-up for 2015 along with new recruit Fernando Alonso.
Whilst Button won the seat ahead team-mate Kevin Magnussen double world champion Alonso joins the Surrey-based outfit for a second time in his career after a turbulant single-season drive in 2007.
At the presentation ceremony Alonso said: “It was 2007 [his first time in McLaren] and that moment we had the feeling we started something without finishing it. I think it’s the perfect moment in my carreer to come back here and try to win the championship for sure”.
Alonso and Button will spearhead the team while Magnussen will stay on as test and reserve driver for McLaren who are starting a new engine partnership with Honda in the hope of replicating their title winning run of the late 1980’s.
