Heavy snow has prompted a state of emergency in western New York as temperatures in all 50 US states dipped to freezing or below.

Winter has come early in most parts including Hawaii.

New York’s snow fall was over a metre deep – hampering transport and threatening power lines.

The storm is expected to last for several days. Even Florida is bracing itself for the big freeze.
