Hungary biggest soup kitchen has been delivering hundreds of hot meals to those most in need.

This year the Food for Life Foundation organised the event in a street in the centre of Budapest, near Blaha Lujza Square.

"I was a mason. I was working from 7 am sometimes until late at night or the next dawn. I worked in Germany for 34 months and I was ruined, I became disabled." said one man waiting in the queue.

1,500 people can get a food package and a hot meal at the soup kitchen. Items include flour, pasta, tea, bread, biscuits, cooking oil and fruit juice.

"This food they give us helps us a lot. We keep some of it for the New Year," said one woman.

The soup kitchen is an important event every year at Christmas time in Hungary.

Many people send money to the charity or offer voluntary work to help out.
