The French president's trip to India aims to strengthen trade, defence and political ties
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte have begun a four-day visit to India aimed at strengthening trade, defence and political ties.
They were welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the airport. He had earlier tweeted that the visit would add great strength to their partnership.
Macron will hold official talks with Modi in New Delhi on Saturday and both leaders will also co-chair the first International Solar Alliance summit on Sunday.
France is also expected to push for a follow-on order to the 36 Rafale fighter jets India purchased from Dassault in 2016.
