At least five people have reportedly been killed after a crash involving two army helicopters in southeast France.

The crash occurred around 9am CET around Lake Carces, near Cabasse around 50km north of the popular tourist resort of Saint Tropez .

It's unclear what caused the accident. Authorities say the helicopters were carrying five people, all of whom were killed in the crash. However, French news agency, AFP, says a search is underway for a sixth person.

Both aircraft were from the Army’s School of Light Aviation (EALAT) in the nearby town of Cannet des Maures.
