A study by the University of Utah has revealed that onboard technologies are distracting drivers for up to 40 seconds at a time.

Leading reseacher, David Strayer said: ‘‘We’re making simple interactions complex, the workload associated with these systems are very high.’‘

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has suggested that car companies should make some of these technologies only functional when a car is parked.
