Russia has showcased its new multi-purpose fighter jet, the Mikoyan MiG-35, at the 13th International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS). The airshow, which runs until July 23, presents aerospace-related high-tech products from almost 800 companies from around 36 countries.

Russia’s new MiG-35 plane is the country’s most-advanced multi-purpose fighter jet.

It has improvements in flight and technical characteristics, as well as the most-advanced onboard radio-electronic equipment and a wide arsenal of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles. The jet can develop a speed of 2.23 Mach and its operational radius exceeds the range of its predecessor MiG-29 by 50.

Flight tests began in January 2017.

More than 200 civil and military aircraft are on display at the event. “The 13th MAKS air show will help develop cooperation in the aircraft sector and promote Russian products on international markets,” President Vladimir Putin said at the opening of the airshow.

Among the participators are 180 foreign firms, some of which from India. A top Russian official said that India and Russia will soon sign a contract to jointly develop a fifth-generation fighter aircraft. The inter-governmental pact for the FGFA project was made as far back as 2007.
