Apple has revealed its latest range of emojis – including a woman wearing a headscarf, a woman breastfeeding and an exploding head.
The images, which will be released at an unspecified date later this year, also include a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a zebra, a zombie and an elf. They will feature on iPhones, Mac computers as well as the Apple watch.
The new characters were made possible by an update of the code which allows computers to communicate with each other. Google has already taken advantage to release its own set of updated emojis on some platforms.
Around 92% of the world’s 3.2 billion internet users are thought to use emojis which were first popularised around the world by Apple in 2011.
Japanese designer Shigetaka Kurita is credited with their invention in 1999 and the name is a composite of the words for letters and pictures. There are more than 2,600 currently available.
