American tennis star Serena Williams posted on her Snapchat on Wednesday, April 19 that she is 20 weeks pregnant. The timing means she won the Australian Open approximately two months pregnant into her pregnancy.

Williams has not played a competitive match since winning her 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, where she failed to lose a single set.
She is scheduled to reclaim the number one world ranking next week from Angelique Kerber, but the Saginaw, Michigan native will not play in the remainder of the 2017 season. However, her spokeswoman indicated in an interview with the New York Times that she intends to return in 2018.
The announcement comes after news broke in December of her engagement to Alexis Ohanian, a businessman and author best known as the co-founder of Reddit.

Since her professional debut in 1995 aged just 14, Williams has been an ever-present figure on the professional tour. She is one Grand Slam title away from tying the record for a singles player. She also boasts 14 major doubles titles with her sister, Venus, as well as two mixed doubles grand slams. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time in the sport.
