Protests grind French Guiana to a halt

French President Francois Hollande has written to MPs in French Guiana to find a solution after weeks of protest by the
500 brothers collective movement.

The group is protesting against decades of under-investment in the French territory.

The social unrest has paralysed the country of 250,000.

France offered an injection of $1bn in aid, which was rejected by protesters who demanded an immediate injection of $2.5bn.

The Ariane rocket launch has been postponed.
