Cristiano Ronaldo will have to make more room in his trophy cabinet after the Portugual international was named Globe Soccer player of the year.

It was Ronaldo’s ninth individual award of 2016 – year that saw him help Real Madrid to an 11th Champions League title and Portugal to their European Championship crown in France over the summer.

Ronaldo said: ‘‘I’m so happy, you know it was a fantastic year, individually and collectively. Next year we’re gonna try to do the same. We know it’s gonna be tough, because it’s almost impossible, but every year is a challenge for me so, I will try to my best all the time”.

It is the fourth time the 31-year-old Ballon D’Or winner has won the Globe Soccer award.

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez was at the ceremony in Duabi to collect the trophy for best club of the year while after steering Portugal to its first major piece of silverware at Euro2016 in France, Fernando Santos recieved the gong for best national manager.
