Manny Pacquiao made a successful return to the ring as he beat champion Jessie Vargas to claim the WBO welterweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday.
With his former world title rival Floyd Mayweather Jr eagerly watching on from a ringside seat, 37-year old Pacquiao was keen to impress having retired in April to win election to the senate in the Philippines.
The Veteran pugilist floored his American opponent with a straight left in the second but Vargas was quickly back on his feet.
Although 27-year-old Vargas landed several dangerous rights, eight-division world champion Pacquiao stood firm and dominated the final rounds to eventually win courtesy of a unanimous points decision.
To no great surprise the Filipino southpaw becomes the first sitting Senator to win a world boxing championship.
