While post-Brexit woes are causing the pound to plummet in recent months, innovative Brits have found something better to do with their cash.
The UK’s new five pound note – the country’s first polymer banknote – is not only waterproof, tear proof and dirt proof, it can also be used as a stylus for playing vinyl records.
Videos of people using their money to play their records have begun to emerge on YouTube and, while the sound is tinny and nowhere near the quality one might get from more expensive specialist equipment, the happy coincidence is keeping many vinyl fans endlessly entertained.
The plastic note is illustrated with images of Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill. It was introduced last month to replace the paper note as more durable and harder to forge and has generally received favourable reviews.
